Coconut oil is extracted by cold pressing the flesh of the coconut. At room temperature it has a solid, buttery consistency, while above 20°C it appears as an oily liquid. This change in consistency is important for storage and use: in summer it can be stored in a jar with a dropper, while in winter it can be heated in a water bath or dispensed by spooning into a sterile container with a lid.

• It is used in cosmetics to care for the skin, to preserve its beauty, elasticity and softness.
