Making lavender oil is not only a simple and creative process, but also a calming ritual that helps you feel closer to nature. Whether you want to use it for skincare or stress relief, a well-made lavender oil is truly priceless and the best part is that you can easily make it at home!

Why is it worth trying?

  • You work with 100% natural ingredients
  • You can save money compared to store-bought oils
  • Aromatherapy and skincare benefits, completely chemical-free
  • A creative, relaxing activity, also great as a gift

Making Lavender Oil Step by Step

1. Gather the ingredients

To make lavender oil, you will need:

  • 1 cup dried or fresh lavender flowers
  • 1 cup carrier oil (e.g. sweet almond, olive, or jojoba oil)
  • A sealable glass jar
  • Cheesecloth or a fine strainer
  • A dark glass bottle for storage

2. Prepare the lavender

Make sure the lavender is clean and completely dry. Moisture can cause the oil to mold easily.

3. Infuse in oil

Place the lavender into the jar, then pour the oil over it until the flowers are fully covered. Close the jar and place it in a warm, sunny spot for about 2–4 weeks. Shake it gently from time to time so the active ingredients can release more effectively.

4. Strain and store

At the end of the process, strain the mixture through cheesecloth or a fine strainer, then pour it into a dark glass bottle. Store it in a cool, dark place. This way, it can last up to 6–12 months.

What can homemade lavender oil be used for?

  • As a massage oil – helps relaxation and reduces muscle tension
  • Added to bath water – just one spoonful creates a wellness experience
  • For skincare – helps soothe minor irritations, insect bites, and dry patches
  • Dropped onto a pillow – its calming effect can support better sleep

Extra tip: essential oil vs. homemade lavender oil

It’s important to know that making lavender oil at home is different from producing industrial essential oils. The homemade version is an infusion, meaning it is not as concentrated, but it is perfect for everyday use.

Summary

Making lavender oil is a true slow-living experience: slow, nature-based, and extremely useful. Once you try it, you’ll always want to keep a bottle on your shelf homemade and lovingly prepared.

However, if you don’t have the time or opportunity to make it, there’s no need to worry. We can confidently recommend these two reliable lavender oil products instead:
